About IRMAA Tracker

IRMAA Tracker is a free, independent website run by a private individual. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Social Security Administration, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Medicare.gov or any insurer. “Medicare” is used here only to describe the public program.

Where the numbers come from

• IRMAA brackets and premiums: the CMS fact sheet for each year, cross-checked against SSA’s operations manual (POMS HI 01101.020) and Form SSA-44. Where official documents disagree, the discrepancy is shown on the 2026 brackets page.
• Rules: the Social Security Act (§1839 for IRMAA, §215 for the COLA and benefit rounding), SSA’s POMS manual and the instructions of Form SSA-44.
• Inflation data: the Bureau of Labor Statistics public API (CPI-U and CPI-W), downloaded automatically each time the site is built. The download is rejected if it does not reproduce the figures SSA published.

Every page lists its sources with links and the date they were read. Official figures were last checked on September 29, 2026.

How the calculations are tested

The calculation code is separate from the pages and covered by automated tests that reproduce the official examples: the CMS premium totals for every year since 2020, SSA’s 2026 COLA computation, the Form SSA-44 example, and the indexing formula of the law, which must give back every published threshold from 2020 to 2026.

Monthly (CPI), in October (COLA) and when CMS publishes the new premiums and brackets (September to November).
